8th Hour Notice

September 25, 2020

Dear R-II Parents,

I care about your kids….our kids! In an effort to help your child be successful, I have been
performing daily homework checks. We have had many students with late assignments and
several students are missing multiple assignments in more than one class. In an effort to further
help your child to become more successful, I will be implementing academic support hours on
Wednesdays and Thursdays for 5 th – 8 th grade. (8 th hours)

If your child has a missing assignment that is more than one day late, they will receive written
notice that they will need to stay after school for an academic support hour. Parents will either
receive a phone call or written notice as well. This will be an excellent opportunity for them to
work independently to finish their homework or study to improve their grades. Staying after
school is considered a consequence for not completing or turning work in on time. Students will
be expected to stay the entire hour. Pick up will be at 4:00 pm.

It is my hope that implementing academic support hours will help students become more
responsible and more successful in and out of the classroom. If you have any questions, please
don’t hesitate to contact me.

Please encourage your R-II student to complete their homework and turn it in on time. Students
should check with their teachers to make sure they do not have missing assignments.

*As a reminder, students that are absent only have one day for each absence to make up work.
(EX: 2 days absent = 2 days to make up)

Respectfully,

Kathy Oetterer, Principal
