Parentally Placed Private School Children

The Franklin County R-II School District ensures that students in privately placed settings by their parents/guardians are identified and evaluated in a manner comparable to those students that are enrolled in a public school setting. Once these students are found to have a disability they do not have the same individual entitlement to services that they would receive if in a public school setting. The district is obligated to spend a proportionate amount of IDEA federal funds to provide equitable services. LEAs are required to consult with private school representatives and representatives of parents of parentally placed children with disabilities during the design and development of special education and related services for these children.
